Statement
The Futures of Education, Culture, and Nature project, FECUN aims to contribute to the reimagining and building of a new dynamic worldwide infrastructure of education, which supports the right to quality education for every person and realizes the transformational potential of education as a route for sustainable collective futures. FECUN focuses especially on the entanglements between education, culture and nature.
Idea
FECUN is inspired by UNESCO’s initiatives attempting to connect education with the notion of ‘commons’ and the idea of creating a new social contract
for education that can repair injustices while transforming our visions
and images of our future together.
More specifically, FECUN aims to connect sustainable development and education for sustainable development, with new ways of perceiving the relation between education, culture, and nature in academia, applied science, vocational education and research, and higher education in general.
Further, FECUN wants to take the world’s biodiversity of forms of knowledge, presence, and attentive care to the planet seriously for reasons related to epistemic recognition and as inspiring knowledge resources for continued ‘common sculpturing’ a better and more sustainable world.

Research Themes
The possible research themes in FECUN follow more or less principally from the idea of FECUN. However, more themes will emerge through international cooperation and local activities. The themes of the conferences in the conference series emerge in a collaboration between the general FECUN board and the regional conference organizers, who have both a right and duty to suggest relevant themes according to the idea of FECUN.
The conference issues of the FECUN journal are created and published in a collaborative review process, including the local editorial board, where the conference is held, and the general editorial board, which functions as an advisory board for conference issues. Besides this, the general editorial board also initiates and organizes peer-reviewed thematic issues between conferences.
Themes in local FECUN projects and initiatives are obviously developed locally, while FECUN related projects and activities with several partners, of course, are generated by the partners in the project
Activities
FECUN seeks to realize the idea by organizing the following activities, namely 1) An international conference series, 2) An international journal, 3) various other
activities organized locally or as joint projects, 4) Research. More information on activities as they unfold on www.fecun.net.
